Julien Bardakoff wanted to voice Toad in Mario Kart 64, but Koji Kondo said that he'd be Luigi instead. This decision butterflied into him becoming the de-facto voice on Luigi in Japan until the release of Luigi's Mansion, with even Super Smash Bros. 64 and Melee pitching Mario's voice higher to emulate him.
