Hi, I've been interested in trying to make character mods for my friends and I to use (and to upload here), and I've tried to follow the written tutorial a few times but keep getting stuck at various points since it's mainly text and I'm more of a visual learner.

If it's not too much trouble, could someone either point me towards a video tutorial for creating Character mods, or if you have the time for it, make one? I'm sure it'd help a lot more people than just me!

Making character models is very comparable to general decomp modelling. A common video I see passed around in our discord is
, which does a very good job giving people a visual tutorial on the whole creation process, and for the most part, it's very applicable to coop. There's a few different steps, mainly when it comes to export, where you instead export to your mod/dynos folder instead

Hi, thank you for the video tutorial. I've spent some time learning blender functions and I've made a lot of progress, but no matter what I do it keeps throwing errors at me when trying to export the geo layout. At first it was related to vertex groups but I figured out how to correctly attach them to each part of the mode. Then it started telling me that "Mesh has no attribute 'bone'" with no other information. There were also errors regarding the Switch Bones which I wasn't even trying to edit, but I did replace the Mario Heads for blinking/hatless states with the new model's head and managed to edit the textures to make the character blink.

I'm really struggling here and I'm not sure why because I do everything that was in this video and I get errors that they don't show. That's why I was hoping for a more up to date tutorial video for CoopDX specifically to maybe show me where I'm going wrong. I know it wouldn't be the easiest thing, but a lot of people seem to have the hang of this and we just need one person to take the time to make a video on it. I'm sure it would open the flood gates for tons of people wanting to create character mods. Not trying to sound pushy or anything, i'm just frustrated that I keep hitting dead ends because of the several different tutorials I've tried.

Ahh, yeah, the video doesn't use the current template, apologies- We're working on better documentation, but in the meantime I'm sure if you join the discord someone there who does more skin stuff would be able to assist you better (AND sooner)

Ah, that explains some of the issues, I appreciate your quick response. I'll try and join the discord then and look for more information there, thanks!

Here's some forums I found. (BTW, I'm subscribed)

I personally would suggest making a tutorial of sorts.

Thank you! I actually had a breakthrough today and was able to get this working properly! Once I'm a bit more confident in the process, I intend to make a video tutorial so people who are looking for help with this have another resource!

Glad I was able to help a content creator I enjoy! I, myself have been trying to learn how to mod and your tutorial vid would do wonders for me since I'm a visual learner.

PS. Please gimme a shoutout in the vid, I wish to be immortalized. I understand if you don't, but hey, nothing wrong with at least attempting to ask.
