Don't worry if the difficulty seems a bit high to you, at the end of the day the best player will win, regardless of the difficulty of the level, that is, in this game mode death is trivial, the levels are just made with moderately difficult sections because the respawns are immediate and the checkpoints are very close, so it's not so frustrating and the player who makes the most effort will be ahead, you won't be the only one who dies and respawns frequently.
If you want the mod to have a kind of rubberbanding so that new players have a chance, what you could do would be to include Character Select characters with custom movesets like Yoshi, Peach or Pauline so that new players have an advantage.
Regarding the music bug you mention, it is very strange what you are telling me, it has never happened to me before and no player has ever reported it to me before.
