I'd reccomend learning how to make Rom Hacks for normal sm64 first; Bitylic has a good series for this:

THough you should probably use HackerSM64; It has more features but the tutorials still work. GitHub - HackerN64/HackerSM64: A Super Mario 64 decompilation repo based on CrashOveride95/ultrasm64 that aims to provide a flexible, easy-to-use base for creating romhacks.
