Every time i try to open the software is stays on a black screen then crashes?

I've just gotten the file tried to open (no rom in it yet) then it just crashes on launch basically, i have no idea how to fix it, I've checked my drivers and their up to date aswell

weird, if your on OpenGL or DirextX, try the build you have not tried
and also maybe have your rom in first, name it baserom.us.z64

I tried putting the rom in the file and naming it but it gives the same results

Put the file in %appdata%\sm64coopdx\ and then retry

so it works now but the mods dont load now?

usually means you dont have any mods or a mods folder, you can puts mods in there
also make a "mods" folder if you dont got one
you can also drag zip folders onto the game window and lua files to install it that way in game
