Hey all, i'm new to coop as you can imagine. I've played through a sesh with some folks but quickly realized that keyboard is NOT suitable for a playthrough. I have an xbox controller wired to my pc but the only control thats recognized is left trigger for crouch, i cannot remap the controls to my liking for some reason. Can anyone please walk me through the necessary steps to setup my controller?

You can go to Options > Controls > N64 Binds to set up your controls. If this does not work, then steam might be the problem, like what Paradox said.
Oh, and while you're at it, you might want to map some extra binds as well. They can be found in the controls menu.

PS5 controller will do then. Switching to it works. My xbox one is wired and isn't an xbox brand controller so that could be the case? whatevs, got it working.
sorry for the late response, but im also having a similar issue. when configuring in n64 binds, when im trying to change the jump button to a and the punch button to b, it doesnt work (im on switch pro controller) but every other configuration works. i tried everything i saw in this thread but nothing worked. is there a fix?

alright i fixed iut, for any guests wondering, i made the second and third layer imn the configuration screen blank, so it doesnt overlap

Just select the same button for 2 layers and it will automatically disappear
someone please help, i am having the same issue, my xbox series x controller won't work no matter what i do, the only buttons it detects is the left and right triggers, nothing else, steam is fully closed
