Base Character Stats! - The main gang now has new stats!

This mod edits the base 4 playable characters in the game to have their very own stats and abilities! They are as follows:

Mario: Bonks are simply less strong to him.
Luigi: Higher jump, lower running speed. His third jump is a twirl.
Toad: Lower jump, higher running speed.
Waluigi: Takes less damage, lower jump.
Wario: Dies in a singular hit, hold the punch button in the air to hover for a limited time.

5/5 Would use again. Here are some critiques and issues:


Wario's and Waluigi's abilities should be swapped (of course).

“Takes less damage” is a vague description for Waluigi’s current ability. You should either list the specific resistances manually or explain the rule(s) for the damage reduction.

Losing power is dangerous when swapping characters as scrolling to Wario will kill the player instantly if they’re not at full hp. This also applies to losing power while swimming underwater. Replacing the current code for taking 8x damage may be a better, simpler route.

And now, for the BIG ONE…


The "hover" ability is INCREDIBLY fundamentally flawed in its implementation (but super silly and fun to use; it should honestly be its own mod):

1. It functions more like a dash. You can use it anytime and anywhere, limited only by water and needing to land before repeated use. The dash makes the player airborne by what appears to only be a few pixels if they are already grounded. Timing your taps upon hitting the ground will grant you a lot of speed very quickly. You can also climb steep slopes that nobody else should be able to with ease.

2. The dash replaces almost every function of B entirely, only allowing you to dive mid-air after you use it and grab items underwater. The interactions, therefore, with King Bob-omb, Eye-rock, Ukiki, and Bowser are all made awkward as your only means to handle them is to dive into them, for which you need space. Shenanigans can occur if you successfully continue to jump and dash while holding anyone you can pick up. (at least Wario’s strength to carry objects is assigned to the correct character).

3. Dashing can interrupt cutscenes, including obtaining keys or being ejected from a course post-death. If Wario’s hp isn’t given time to regenerate during the ejection cutscenes, he’ll die a second time, unless he successfully reenters the course. However, dashing may not even be required as the healing occurs on a slightly greater delay when being ejected from a course vertically. The Bowser worlds and Rainbow Ride come to mind.


There are more shenanigans that can happen, but I’ve already spent long enough writing this, and you should just goof around with it yourself.

Overall, great mod, REALLY NEEDS REEVALUATION OF THAT ONE ABILITY SET, SPECIFICALLY! X-D
